Hey, I’m Sarah Mitchell 👋
A Portland-based food lover with a serious crush on French cuisine.
My love affair with French baking began in my late twenties, during a life-changing trip to Paris. One bite of a buttery croissant and a perfectly caramelized tarte Tatin was all it took—I was hooked. Since then, I’ve returned to France many times, exploring bakeries, home kitchens, and even dining at Michelin-starred restaurants, soaking up techniques, flavors, and inspiration wherever I could find them.
Back home, reality hit.
Most authentic French recipes were written in grams, milliliters, and Celsius—and often assumed a professional culinary background. Beautiful… but intimidating.
So I started doing what I do best: translating, testing, and adapting.
I converted measurements, simplified techniques, and reworked recipes until they made sense in a real American kitchen—without losing what makes French baking so special.
That’s how Buffalo Bakery was born.
This is where French elegance meets American practicality.
Because you shouldn’t need a culinary degree—or a scale from Paris—to enjoy a perfect éclair, a flaky croissant, or a rustic French dessert that actually works at home.
When I’m not covered in flour, you’ll find me:
- wandering Portland’s farmers markets
- hiking the Pacific Northwest with my golden retriever Croissant (yes, really 🐶🥐)
- or planning my next trip back to France
Bienvenue to my kitchen.
Let’s bake something beautiful—without the stress.
